Petit taxis are metered in most cities, though tourists sometimes need to insist on the meter being used. Grand taxis typically operate on a fixed per-seat price for a given route, and drivers wait until the car is full before departing.
For airport arrivals specifically, neither option is usually the most convenient — a dedicated private transfer service offers the comfort and predictability that petit and grand taxis can lack for first-time visitors.
